(The World I Wanted to See) yang ditulis oleh Prof. Jeannie Suk (nama Koreanya: 지영석).

Wah salut.

Dia meraih B.A. (Bachelor of Arts) dari Yale University pada tahun 1995 dan mendapatkan D.Phil (Doctor of Philosophy) di Oxford University tahun 1999. Kemudian dia mendapatkan J.D. Dikatakan bahwa she is the first Asian-American woman to hold tenure at Harvard Law School. She has been awarded the Guggenheim Fellowship, the Marshall Scholarship, the Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans, and a fellowship at the MacDowell Colony. She also was named one of the “Best Lawyer under 40” by the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association and “Top Woman of the Law” by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly. WOW.

Ia sangat depresi, merasa terkucilkan, terasing, dia berkata those because I couldn’t speak English, not even a single word I understood.

Her mother brought her to the regular school even though she had no ability in English. Her life was so hard because of the difficulties to communicate with others. She then became a silent person, didn’t want to talk to her friend and she was often fended for oneself in her room. Her mother realize the condition of her beautiful child, so she took little Jeannie to the local library every day after coming back from school. In the public library, little Jeannie had been given a freedom to do what she wanna do. Little Jeannie then had a new feeling, a new adventure, walked in the corridor which is full of books, read some books that even she could not understand at all, but she felt very happy. As time went by, she became addicted to read again and again. Her childhood life was fulfilled with reading so many books.

Formerly, she had an aunt which could do ballet very well. Little Jeannie was very fond of her aunt and she became obsessed with ballet. At 9th grade she got permission from her mother to learn ballet in SAB (School of American Ballet). Not only ballet, she also loved music very much, so she attended Juilliard Pre-College for piano. Her obsessed in ballet pushed her so much that she wanted to be more focus in ballet rather than in school. But her mother didn’t agree with that. She thought being a ballerina couldn’t bring a success for her child. Again, she felt depressed, she was very messy at school, didn’t do her homework, and never had an achievement in her school. But her loved of reading and art was still alive. In the night she always read a book about poetry, art, and music, and became a zombie in the morning. Until the particular time, she then realized that she couldn’t abandon her education life, she then fulfilled her promise to focus on study.

Cukup menarik mendengar ceritanya. Yuk Lanjut Part II.
